Volvo India to launch V40 petrol next week

Volvo will bring in a petrol version of its luxury
hatch, the V40 Cross Country, next week. While
the all-new XC90 is expected to reach our roads
later this year, Volvo is making sure it brings its
other models up to speed too.
Launched in 2013 , the V40 Cross Country hasn’t
seen as much success, relative to other
conventional models from the Volvo stable. The
hatchback/crossover design is unique and edgy in
a lot of ways but has found fewer takers. With the
decreased price differential between petrol and
diesel fuel prices, there has been a renewed
interest in petrol versions of vehicles.
Internationally, the V40 is available in three petrol
versions ranging from a modest 120bhp to a
raspy 242bhp. But for India, the off-beat
crossover is most likely to get a four-cylinder
1.5-litre, turbo petrol that will churn out 150bhp
and 250Nm at its peak. This will be mated to a
six-speed automatic transmission. Volvo claims a
fuel efficiency figure of around 18kpl in European
fuel cycle, which should mean a more realistic
figure of 9-13.5kpl here.
Specifications and equipment levels should be the
same as the diesel variant. Interiors are uniquely
designed with heavy Scandinavian influence. It
isn’t very spacious but is more of a snug fit. The
car handles quite well and with a more silent and
refined powertrain, should make for a better
everyday car too.
Volvo will announce the price in Mumbai next
week, but we expect it to hover around ₹43 lakh
on-road – just a shade below the diesel version.
