A heavily disguised test mule of the Mercedes-
Benz SLK facelift was recently spotted undergoing
trials in Europe. The bigger news however, is that
Mercedes-Benz will be renaming the two-seater
convertible to SLC-Class, in line with the
company’s new nomenclature.
The current R172 Mercedes-Benz SLK is at
present one of the oldest models in the German
manufacturer’s line-up and hasn’t received any
major update since 2012. The new SLC-Class will
be a mid-cycle update of the current car and
hence, will continue to be based upon the same
platform.
Aesthetically though, the new SLC will feature
some major updates to bring it in line with the
current crop of Mercedes-Benz cars. The front of
the test mule sported heavy camouflage, though
the overall shape of the front bumper and
headlamps point at a more rounded design.
The new Mercedes-Benz SLC is expected to be
globally unveiled quite late in the year, around the
2015 Frankfurt Motor Show in September. For
now, Mercedes-Benz is planning to update the
engine line-up of the current SL with the addition
of a host of four-pot engines.
